This training session will introduce you to NICE Guidance and Clinical Knowledge Summaries. NICE Guidance provides evidence-based recommendations developed by independent committees available to browse by topic or programme. Clinical Knowledge Summaries provides summaries of the current evidence base and practical guidance on best practice for primary care practitioners organised by topic or specialty. Each topic is summarised and covers diagnosis, management, background information and prescribing information (if relevant). This is the second of four sessions on Tuesdays this month focusing on resources that are easy to pick up, user-friendly, and can provide support at the point-of-care or used to find current evidence quickly and efficiently. These library resources can be used to support patient care, service improvement, research, professional development and coursework.

The session will be led by Chloe Turner, the new Primary Care Librarian for Derbyshire. The first 15-20 minutes will be the main presentation followed by an opportunity for questions for the remaining 10 minutes.

What will I learn?

Participants will learn how to:

  • Locate the NICE Guidance home page
  • Navigate tabs on the home page to get to different resources
  • Browse by topic, programme or specialty to find relevant guidelines and evidence
  • Use filters – dates, title and keywords – to narrow down your search results
  • Navigate sections of the evidence
