Supporting you in your First 5 years of Practice

Welcome to Derbyshire!

If you are just about to qualify as a GP in Derbyshire or have recently qualified as a GP within the past 5 years and live or work in Derbyshire, then you’ve come to the right place! We are a growing community of local GPs, joining each other in getting our CPD and making connections and supporting each other.

First 5 Derbyshire is run voluntarily by Eilise Brogan, and Henna Taimoor. They are both GPs in Derbyshire and very much enjoy being part of this group. They organise monthly education sessions which include guest speakers.

First 5 welcome anyone to join our group and get involved in any capacity! Giving ideas for sessions, or of speakers, or of being speakers themselves!

Dr Henna Taimoor

I qualified in October 2018 as a GP from Derby and currently work as a Locum GP in Derby and OOH Hubs. I am passionate about Teaching and Education and lifelong learning.

I am interested in GP resilience/portfolio career. Charity work and cooking are my other passions. I hope we are able to deliver a well-rounded programme for teaching and networking for First 5s in a friendly and accessible environment.

Dr Henna Taimoor

Dr Eilise Brogan

I qualified as a GP earlier this year from Derby and having always been interested in teaching, it is something that I am passionate about continuing and facilitating now.

I currently work part time at Crich Medical Practice and spend the rest of the week with my children. I think it is really important to have accessible, useful teaching, but also to have a group of GPs that can support each other. I believe that is what our First 5 Derby group is becoming and we very much welcome new members.

Acronyms of General Practice!
If you have not already discovered the NHS loves a good acronym

It’s challenging enough to do the day job let alone learn the 100s, if not 1000s of abbreviated organisations and support services that you may utilise at some point during your career as a GP. Discover what the various organisations and names mean and how to navigate them.

The first year of being a GP can on occasions be a little puzzling. We have grouped together some short podcasts to support your transition.
