There are numerous organisations which deliver dedicated learning which can enhance your skills and understanding.
NHS Leadership Academy: Edward Jenner Programme
Your first steps in healthcare leadership
The programme will support you as you develop essential leadership skills; open to all, this programme leads to an NHS Leadership Academy award in Leadership Foundations.
If you want to feel more able to deal with the daily challenges of working in healthcare, better equipped to care for patients, lead services and provide leadership for those around you – supporting them to do their job better – the Edward Jenner programme is for you.
The programme has been designed with health and care staff, for everyone working in a health and care context. Highly practical and patient-focused, it’s a great way to understand the purpose, challenges and culture of the NHS.
NHS Leadership Academy: Mary Seacole Programme
The Mary Seacole programme is a six-month leadership development programme which was designed by the NHS Leadership Academy in partnership with global experts, Korn Ferry Hay Group, to develop knowledge and skills in leadership and management.
The concept of learning how to be a leader when you’re in the thick of your day to day responsibilities can seem rather abstract, but the Mary Seacole programme is grounded in reality and results in real workplace application. It aims to provide the balance between learning the theory and putting it into practice. Designed for those in their first formal leadership role it empowers people to turn their success into consistent team success and to champion compassionate patient care.
The Mary Seacole programme is for first time leaders in healthcare. It’s for you if you are in a ‘formal’ position of leadership with responsibilities for people and services, and able to relate what you learn to your workplace.
Midlands Leadership Academy
The Midlands Leadership and Lifelong Learning team aims to develop leadership capacity and capability within the Midlands region and we will work with you to develop compassionate and inclusive leaders across our region’s health and care system.

We will work with you to design, commission and deliver the highest quality leadership development opportunities for the NHS and our colleagues, equipping them with the right skills, attitudes and behaviours to deliver the best possible quality of care to patients.
The Midlands Leadership and Lifelong Learning team has a role to play in helping to address both local and regional priorities with demonstrable impact at individual, team and organisational level.
